As leaders, we have a responsibility to set the tone for our teams and foster a positive work environment. Celebrating wins (big and small!), sharing sincere and positive feedback, and honoring special occasions of team members can build enthusiasm and energy.

FIRST, look at yourself. Take a brisk five-minute walk (outside if possible) to burn off some stress and get the blood flowing to your brain to aid in your thinking ability. Then be aware of your body language, your facial expression. Model your own “can do” attitude. Smile. Most people will smile back. Instant energy!

SECOND, look at your team members. Offer words of encouragement and an understanding smile. Recall when times have been tough in the past and the team has persevered. Recognize and celebrate even the smallest progress made.
